WHAT IS THE CONNECTION BETWEEN YOGA AND INDIAN CLASSICAL DANCE?

All these disciplines share the same root. They are guided by principles that have to do with the balance between body and mind, using techniques that produce excellent results in terms of physical and mental health, scientifically proven.

Originating from the Vedic Culture - from Ancestral India - these techniques have been tested and practiced by thousands of people over millennia. Yoga includes breathing exercises (pranayama), stretching and yoga postures (asanas), meditation (dhyana) and theoretical studies.

Thus, Yoga has a therapeutic function, in the sense that it helps us to maintain the balance between our various dimensions: physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual.

Indian Classical Dance also contains all these ingredients, with a whole technique of postures and movements to booth, with aesthetic and symbolic effects. As in yoga, we use mudras - hand gestures - that not only have a narrative function, but also help to activate the energetic points of our body, positively affecting our psychological sphere. It contributes to develop focus and concentration, sometimes reaching a meditative state. It masterfully works with various philosophical contents, turning them into art.

Thus, it can be considered that this type of dance is Yoga in movement.

HOW DID NATYOGA START?

Although these three disciplines - Dance, Yoga and Meditation -

were originally interconnected,

there has been a separation over the centuries.

This modality arose from the logical need to combine again

three areas that, together, produce more interesting results

than in isolation.

Created in 2011 by Eeshani Lasya and Dilen Magan, this method was later developed by Eshani in collaboration with Shastri Apurv Jani.

Her experience as a dancer, as well as the practice of yoga and meditation for about two decades, led her to understand the positive effect of these disciplines on her artistic performance, as well as other areas of life.

She then decided to develop a method that would integrate these disciplines, sharing it with others, so that they could develop their potential.
